Skintonws are another tricky color challenge. Caucasian or Asian Skin can often reproduce with hot spots of reds or yellows, creating a sunburned look. This is especially true if the skin carries an equal amount of magenta and yellow.
Many presses experience more dot gain in magenta ink than in yellow. When the press operator tries to compensate by boosting the yellow, the skintones become too warm. Make sure your proofs look exactly right before you get on press. You might even consider cutting back all midtone dots, expecting to gain them back on press.
The photos here, especially the one on the cover, show perfectly balanced skin-tones, so beautiful they are almost luminescent.
